The Art of Our Labels
Philip Shaw was the creative force behind the naming of the Cumulus winery and the brands ROLLING and Climbing, noting:
“I wanted the naming and the labels to capture adventure, pride, fun, artistic daring, and most of all, vitality. You can see those elements in the character of people of the Orange region, as well as their produce and work...and I’ve strived to demonstrate those same elements in each of the ROLLING and Climbing wines.”
The label artwork, inspired by an 1890s poster of the Hawaiian Dive Circus, exudes the eccentric and adventurous character of a region dominated by the challenging peaks of the extinct volcano, Mount Canobolas (4,580 ft).
The Climbing label has garnered praise and design acclaim around the world since its release in Australia, Asia, and the UK. The label was awarded a Silver medal at the 2005 Wine & Spirit International Design Awards in London with judges applauding its non-conformity.
Richard Woodard, Editor Wine & Spirits International, enthused, "It’s wonderful to see humour and a sense of fun,” and Eric Yu, Director of The Breakfast Group, added that the Climbing label is, “a fun and clever label that fights convention.”
The ROLLING label features the fictitious protagonist, ‘Beatrice’, a proud, confident, country woman who loves her life and her hometown as she revels in the rolling hills behind her and her rolling ride through the countryside.
Beatrice's scarf is in the colours of the local football team while the oranges in her basket point to the brand's locality.
